"Lovely house in very pleasant location
We stayed here in April school holidays as a family of 5 - 2 kids (13 & 15), parents and Grandmother.
The location of Crantock is excellent for exploring Cornwall as most areas are within a one hour drive. The house is in a central location yet very peaceful with lovely open views to the rear and a glimpse of sea from the upstairs lounge. Ample parking although be cautious if reversing out of the drive. Plenty of bedrooms and in fact we didn't use one of them. There is a very small local shop (Londis) which sells most items you would need and there are two pubs. We took a walk to the beach which wasn't too far. The beach is lovely with some massive dunes which my son loved climbing.
The cottage itself was immaculate in cleanliness with good quilts and pillows. The mattresses unfortunately in our opinion were far too soft and gave us back ache. All bedrooms of a good size and each has its own electric heater. The bathrooms were good with fantastic showers, There is a big fridge freezer in the utility room on the ground floor (useful as only a small one upstairs in the kitchen) and a good quality washing machine and tumble dryer. Upstairs is a lovely sized kitchen/diner and lounge with log burner which we didn't need to use as it was nice and warm without it. Ample kitchen accessories and generally very well equipped. Perhaps a re-organisation needed in order to make more cupboard space for shopping. Nice TV and DVD player in the lounge and a couple of large bean bags which the kids liked.
In summer the garden would be a nice size for younger kids to enjoy. The garden has a decked area with outdoor dining furniture which looked nice but we didn't use due to it still being a little on the colder side in April. Off the decked area is a sliding door giving access to the "games room". This room is carpeted and contains the cushions for the garden furniture, a nice TV on the wall and a football table. First of all I would say that the TV and football table make it a great area to hang out. However, the football table has suffered a lot of wear and tear and whilst playing some of the bolts weakened so we had to continually tighten them (we have a modern outdoor football table at home so knew how to do this, but not difficult). Secondly the room absolutely stank of wet dog (we also have a dog so know the smell!). To be honest it was really unpleasant. It is a great little area but in my opinion I would re-carpet and re-paint to get rid of the smell. Outside there is also a shower for washing off wet suits etc.
Over the years we have stayed in many cottages across the UK and despite a couple of minor issues such as the mattresses and the smell of the games room, it really was lovely and you wont be disappointed if you stay here - in fact, probably one of the better cottages we have stayed in." - 4 star rating
